Cake Auction and Bugs

Every year the Scouts do a cake auction to help raise money for summer camp. This year, the cub scouts also did one. Since this was Gunnar's first year participating, we had to go all out. This was the cake that we (I) created. Okay, the boys did help smash the crackers and help put the bugs on. The really important things. We figured out how to make 'real' looking dirt. Take crushed up Oreos and chocolate graham crackers, mix them together and it REALLY looks like dirt. The cake was one of the highest to go, which made Gunnar happy. And we bought three cakes for $30, which made mom very happy and the kids extra happy to have three cakes! Sadly, the boy scout auction was a little more costly - only one cake for $20 (and it was one of the super cheap ones, most went around $40 or $50!). The kids were bummed that we couldn't buy more.....

With the left over bugs Ryker decided they needed a home, and he created a great place for them to sleep and even tucked them in. The best was when he told me that the bugs needed to say prayers so they would be safe. (Maybe he thought the cat would want to eat them??). It was cute! The worst part of the larger than life bugs is that I keep finding them in odd places and they give me a little jump. Seriously, no one likes to see large bugs on the floor - even if they're plastic!!
